Code of Conduct
Last updated: Version 1.0 — 30 April 2026
The Australian AI Safety Forum is an interdisciplinary event where people from very different backgrounds come together to work on hard problems. A good forum needs everyone to feel able to speak, disagree, and learn. This Code sets the floor for how we treat each other.
This Code applies at and around the event — at the venue, at official social events, and on the attendee dashboard (including messaging and meetings booked through the Forum) for as long as you have access.
What we expect
- Be respectful and inclusive. Assume good faith. Listen more than you talk, especially when people with less-heard perspectives are speaking. Think before you speak.
- Disagree on ideas, not on people. Sharp critique is welcome; personal attacks are not.
- Ask before recording private conversations or taking photos of individuals.
- If someone asks you to stop or change something, stop.
What we don't tolerate
- Harassment, intimidation, or stalking — in person, online, or on the messaging feature.
- Demeaning or dismissive language or attitudes.
- Discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected attribute.
- Unwelcome sexual attention. Be especially mindful in any situation with a power imbalance (senior/junior, speaker/attendee, funder/applicant).
- Unwanted physical contact.
- Disruptive behaviour that prevents others from participating.
- Recording of private conversations without consent.
Alcohol is served at some events. It is never a defence.
Reporting
If something happens — to you or to someone else — please tell us. Email contact@aisafetyforum.au, find a staff member at the registration desk, or message an organiser you’re comfortable talking to on the dashboard. Reports are handled confidentially by a small number of named organisers. If you need something, or you need support, ask.
We will not retaliate against anyone who reports in good faith, even if the report turns out to be mistaken.
What we may do
Depending on the situation we may do nothing, have a quiet word, ask someone to change their behaviour, ask them to leave a session, remove them from the event without refund, or ban them from future events. We will act as quickly and fairly as we can.
Agreement
By accepting this Code, you confirm you have read it and agree to follow it while participating in the Forum.
