AI Safety: Privacy, Data and Cybersecurity in the Age of Intelligent Systems

AI systems are now embedded across organisational workflows, yet most governance, privacy and cybersecurity frameworks were never designed for autonomous, data hungry, vendor dependent technologies. The result: AI is accelerating long standing organisational weaknesses—data leakage, insecure integrations, opaque supply chains, unclear accountability and overconfidence in automated outputs. This session examines AI safety through the intersecting lenses of privacy, data governance, cybersecurity, and software supply chain resilience. Using realistic scenarios, the panel will explore how AI systems create new attack surfaces, amplify poor quality data, complicate incident response, and expose organisations to regulatory, operational and national security risks. The discussion is designed to be practical, provocative and cross disciplinary, giving legal, risk, cyber, governance and executive leaders a clear view of what “safe AI” requires in real world.

Ravi Nayyar
Lead Policy Analyst, AUSCL
Dr Ravi Nayyar is Lead Policy Analyst at the Australasian Society for Computers + Law, and a Fellow at the Social Cyber Institute and Australian Strategic Policy Institute. Awarded by the University of Sydney in 2026, Ravi's PhD explored the regulation of national security risks from critical software products deployed on critical infrastructure assets. A published author, Ravi continues to write extensively on cyber and national security policy, including for his Substack, ‘A Techno-Legal Update'.
Leah Mooney
AI Governance and Privacy Lead, Wotton Kearney
For more than 20 years, Leah has provided legal, regulatory, governance, risk and compliance services to corporate and government entities. She is best known for helping clients to understand data privacy, cyber security and technology risk and compliance, with a particular focus on responding to complex data breaches, security of critical infrastructure, countering foreign interference, and high-risk AI technologies.
Benjamin Di Marco

Ben Di Marco leads WTW's Australia and New Zealand Cyber and Technology Risk team, and is an admitted solicitor with over 15 years' experience practicing in Australia, the US and the UK. Ben is Vice President of the Australasian Society for Computers and Law, and sits on advisory bodies for Standards Australia, the Australian Computer Society and multiple law societies. He is also a director of an APRA regulated insurer and lectures at several universities on topics including AI, technology law, cyber, data governance and privacy.
